Tramex Moisture Encounter ME5

The Moisture Encounter ME5 from Tramex is a non-destructive dual-depth moisture meter for wood and building materials (plasterboard, roofing, plaster, tiles, masonry), ideal for locating and mapping moisture problems in the building envelope.

The Moisture Encounter ME5 detects and assesses moisture in building materials by non-destructively measuring electrical impedance: a low-frequency signal is transmitted into the material through the electrodes in the base, and its strength varies in proportion to the moisture present, with the reading shown on a large analogue dial.

The dual depth makes it possible to compare surface and deep moisture and to eliminate the influence of the substrate when testing coverings. It is used to locate moisture problems, map their extent and monitor drying.

Frequently asked questions

Which materials does the ME5 measure?

On wood and building materials such as plasterboard, roofing, plaster, tiles and masonry, non-destructively.

What does dual depth mean?

The ME5 measures up to 10 mm (shallow depth) or up to 30 mm (normal depth), making it possible to compare surface and deep moisture and to eliminate the influence of the substrate.

What is the measuring range on wood?

From 5% to 30% moisture content (%MC); for the other building materials the 0–100 comparative scale is used.

Is it suitable for monitoring drying?

Yes, it is used to monitor the progress of drying in building materials and surfaces.
