The Moisture Encounter MEX5 from Tramex is a dual-depth digital moisture meter for wood and building materials, with a built-in hygrometer, infrared thermometer, in-situ RH probes and hammer probes for wood with over 500 selectable species.
- Non-destructive measurement: dual depth, digital display
- Built-in hygrometer: RH, ambient T, dew point, g/kg
- IR thermometer: surface temperature
- Wood hammer probes: over 500 species, temperature correction
- In-situ RH probes: equilibrium RH in materials
- Range on wood: 0–30% (NDT), 6–50% (hammer probes)
- Bluetooth + App: Tramex Meters; maps and reports
The Moisture Encounter MEX5 detects moisture in building materials by non-destructively measuring electrical impedance and shows the value on a large digital display. The dual depth makes it possible to compare surface and deep moisture.
In psychrometric mode the built-in hygrometer measures RH, ambient temperature, dew point and humidity ratio; with the hammer probes it becomes a resistance meter for the moisture content of wood, with species selection and automatic temperature correction.

Frequently asked questions
The MEX5 is the digital version with a built-in hygrometer, an infrared thermometer and support for in-situ RH probes and hammer probes for wood (over 500 selectable species).
Relative humidity, ambient temperature, dew point, humidity ratio (g/kg) and, with the probe, surface temperature and enthalpy.
From 0 to 30% in non-destructive mode and approximately 6–50% with the hammer probes; for the other materials the 0–100 comparative scale is used.
Yes, via Bluetooth and the Tramex Meters App the measurements can be displayed, geo-tagged and turned into maps, reports and charts.
