ZX3 series ultrasonic thickness gauges

Dakota NDT ZX3 ultrasonic thickness gauge

The Dakota NDT ZX3 is a pulse-echo ultrasonic thickness gauge with a dual element transducer, designed for thickness and corrosion measurement in demanding industrial conditions: rugged aluminium housing, wide measuring range and adjustable gain.

The ZX3 measures thickness by the pulse-echo ultrasonic method: a dual element transducer (transmitting and receiving element) generates high-frequency pulses that travel through the material and are reflected by the far wall. The 120 MHz FPGA timing and the 150 V square wave pulser ensure stable measurements even on corroded or attenuating materials.

It is the ideal instrument for corrosion and pitting inspection on pipes, tanks, boilers and metal structures, as well as on glass and other materials. The high-speed scan mode quickly locates the point of minimum thickness; the sealed extruded aluminium housing and the membrane keypad make it suitable for the harshest environments.

Frequently asked questions

What kind of measurement does the ZX3 perform?

A pulse-echo ultrasonic measurement with a dual element transducer, ideal for remaining thickness and corrosion on metals, glass and other materials.

What is the measuring range?

From 0.63 to 914.4 mm (0.025–36 in), depending on the material and the transducer, with a resolution of 0.01 mm.

Does the ZX3 store readings?

No: the ZX3 is the base version without a data logger. For data memory, USB-C and a Bluetooth module, the ZX5-DL is available.

Is it suitable for demanding industrial environments?

Yes: sealed extruded aluminium housing, membrane keypad resistant to water and petroleum derivatives, operation from −30 to +75 °C and a 5-year warranty.
