The REDAM LDM series has been specifically developed for connection to LDM series LASER distance meters, allowing real-time display of the measurement taken by the LASER distance meter.
The measurement is shown on a giant display, visible even from a great distance, or transmitted to remote terminals via Wi-Fi or Ethernet networks.
All the measurements displayed can be compared with tolerance thresholds so as to generate alarms in the event of out-of-tolerance values when certain thresholds are exceeded, or visual signals that guide the operator through any adjustment operations (a red value indicates out of tolerance, a yellow value indicates a warning, a green value means the measurement is acceptable).
Typical applications
- Diameter inspection of reels and coils
- Distance monitoring
- Dimensional measurement of billets, blooms and slabs
- Position control of overhead cranes with anti-collision or parallelism control function
- Loop control on unwinders and rewinders
- Position measurement of trolleys
- Cutting position measurement on mobile carriages

Other applications with LASER distance meters

Level measurement in tanks, silos or large containers with level display on remote monitors.
The LASER distance meter allows fast and precise measurement even of liquid products where the reflectivity of the surface is sufficient for the LASER spot to be detected.
The LASER distance meter is a valid replacement for the traditional contact float or the ultrasonic detector.

Measurement of length, diameter, ovality and position in the wood sector.
With LASER distance meters it is possible to measure the position of logs or sections of material before processing.
The position, thickness, length or diameter data can be transmitted in real time to PLC, HMI or SCADA systems.
The irregularity of the wood surface is not a problem, as LDM series LASER distance meters constantly correct the operating parameters to guarantee precise and reliable measurement.

Dimensional inspection in the paper and textile industry.
Loop and position control of the web or belt, even with materials that change colour or surface appearance.
Real-time measurement of reel diameter during winding or unwinding operations.
The distance measurement can be transmitted in real time to the line controller (PLC or SCADA) or shown on a display or giant monitor.

Measurement and dimensional inspection in the metal industry.
The characteristics of LDM series LASER distance meters allow precise and reliable measurement even at high temperatures, in the presence of fumes and vapours or on hot surfaces.
Problems of heat or light emission from the target to be detected can be eliminated or greatly reduced by using protective housings or installing optical filters.

Dimensional control in the metallurgical sector, in both hot and cold applications.
The LASER distance meter can provide in real time the position, distance and dimensions (thickness, width, length) of slabs, blooms and billets, both at ambient temperature and at high temperatures.
Problems of heat or light emission from the target to be detected can be eliminated or greatly reduced by using protective housings or installing optical filters

Position measurement on overhead cranes with anti-collision function.
LDM family LASER distance meters allow real-time detection of position and distance on overhead cranes and cranes, providing the anti-collision function.
Installing LASER distance meters also makes it possible to detect the parallelism or lack of synchronisation of the two side girders.
The position, distance or positioning differential can also be shown on giant monitors, or alarms or remote signals can be generated on the control systems.

Supervision of railway infrastructure.
Detection of the position and speed of trains and moving parts.
The ability to measure distances of up to 3 km makes it possible to detect objects that move over long distances or that must be intercepted at long range.
The ability to work on very different surfaces, or with very large variations in colour and reflectivity, makes it possible to measure distance, position and speed even on objects that differ greatly from one another.

Measurement and control of the position, deformation and vibration of large structures, or of structures located at very long distances.
The ability to work on very different surfaces, or with very large variations in colour and reflectivity, makes it possible to measure distance, position and oscillation even on objects that differ greatly from one another. The use of intelligent data loggers allows constant, continuous monitoring even over observation periods of weeks or months.
Remote data transmission also allows several measuring points or several structures to be monitored from a single observation and control point.

Integration with Wi-Fi wireless networks

RODER SRL can provide all the support needed to integrate LASER distance meters in industrial settings or in the structural monitoring sector.
All LASER distance meters can be interfaced via a physical connection (copper cable or optical fibre) or via a wireless connection (Wi-Fi or proprietary radio link).

RODER SRL can supply standard or customised software for continuous monitoring of the physical variables measured by LASER distance meters.
The use of intelligent data loggers allows the monitored physical variables to be checked even over long periods of time, and any anomalies to be reported in real time, even remotely, via web servers or remote control systems.

RODER SRL can supply not only the data acquisition and measurement archiving software but also all the hardware needed to build the final application.
Single- or multi-channel data acquisition units, point-to-point acquisition systems and distributed control systems are available. It is also possible to centralise the data from several distance meters on a single control and data archiving station.
More about LASER rangefinders
The LDM family of LASER rangefinders consists of a range of optoelectronic distance measuring devices for industrial applications, with an analog (4 mA to 20 mA) or digital (Ethernet, Profinet, Profibus, RS232, RS422) interface.
LDM series LASER rangefinders are used for the precise measurement of distances from a few meters up to three kilometers. Distance measurement is an established application of laser technology.
These optical sensors use LASER light (pulsed or modulated) to measure distance, height, length, level and position in a non-contact process. To achieve this, all the components work together in a perfectly coordinated overall system.
Measuring principle
LASER distance meters consist of a laser emitter, a transmitting and receiving optical system, photosensitive semiconductors and sophisticated electronics with algorithms for time measurement or phase measurement.
Various optoelectronic principles are used to determine the measurement, such as time of flight, phase comparison and LASER pulse with back-mixing. These different methods allow individual measurements accurate to the millimetre and measuring ranges of up to several hundred metres.
Reliable and precise measurements
Using LASER distance meters it is possible to measure on natural surfaces or on special reflectors, obtaining fast and precise results.
The LASER distance meters offered by RODER use visible or invisible optical radiation and are classified, in accordance with current regulations, as class 1 or 2 (classes that are safe to operate even without protective eyewear).
The compact design allows easy installation of the LASER distance meter even where space is limited or in industrial applications.
All devices offer standard interfaces, analogue or digital data output and configurable switching outputs. The LDM family of LASER distance meters is widely used for industrial applications with an analogue (4 – 20 mA) or digital interface (Ethernet, Profinet, Profibus, RS232, RS422, SSI).
With the REDAM-LDM family of remote displays it is also possible to monitor processes with multi-point sensors and a multi-sensor acquisition network.
