Manifold gauge sets<\/h2>
The traditional manifold is a set of two gauges (high and low pressure) mounted on a block with three valves for controlling refrigerant gas flows during charging, recovery, evacuation and inspection operations. Digital manifolds combine electronic pressure sensors and thermocouples with a highly legible display, refrigerant databases (R134a, R410A, R32, R1234yf, R290, R600a, R744 and others), automatic calculation of the saturation temperature corresponding to the pressure, superheat and subcooling (the key parameters for analyzing the circuit), and Bluetooth connections to a mobile app for archiving and diagnostics. They are the main working tool of the modern refrigeration engineer. <\/p>
Vacuum gauges<\/h2>
Refrigeration vacuum gauges are high-sensitivity instruments for measuring the level of vacuum reached in the circuit before charging the refrigerant gas. A deep vacuum (typically below 500 microns = 0.067 mbar) is essential to remove residual moisture and non-condensable gases which, if present, would compromise circuit performance and compressor life. Vacuum gauges use thermocouple sensors (standard range 0\u201325,000 microns, accuracy \u00b110% F.S.), capacitive sensors (extended range, high accuracy) and Pirani sensors (for very low ranges). Highly legible digital displays and alarm functions when the setpoint is reached are standard features. <\/p>
Refrigerant scales<\/h2>
Charging refrigerant circuits requires precise metering of the refrigerant gas, typically expressed in grams or kilograms according to the system manufacturer’s specifications. Dedicated electronic scales (typical range 50 kg with 5 g resolution) are used to weigh refrigerant cylinders before and during charging, monitoring the quantity introduced into the system. Models with wireless control and automatic stop functions when the target weight is reached simplify the technician’s work. For systems with very small charges (residential splits of 0.5\u20131 kg), high-resolution scales (1 g) are used. <\/p>
HVAC\/R service applications<\/h2>
The typical operations carried out with these instruments are: commissioning new systems (evacuation, charging, checks); periodic maintenance (checking pressures, temperatures and the presence of non-condensables); fault diagnosis (analysis of superheat and subcooling to identify problems with charge, expansion, condensation or evaporation); efficiency checks (verifying the COP \/ EER of the system against the design values); F-Gas inspections (EU Regulation 517\/2014 on the control of fluorinated greenhouse gases, with mandatory periodic checks for systems above certain thresholds); commissioning of residential and commercial heat pumps.<\/p>
F-Gas regulation<\/h2>
The European F-Gas Regulation (517\/2014) requires periodic leak checks on refrigerant circuits containing fluorinated greenhouse gases (HFCs, PFCs, SF6). The frequency depends on the CO2-equivalent content: every 12 months for \u2265 5 t CO2eq, every 6 months for \u2265 50 t CO2eq, every 3 months for \u2265 500 t CO2eq. Technicians must hold F-Gas certification (in Italy, a personal and a company certificate) and use certified instrumentation. Inspections include visual inspection, electronic leak detection (gas sniffers), pressure testing and, where applicable, vacuum testing on evacuated circuits. <\/p>
Selection criteria<\/h2>
The choice of HVAC\/R instruments depends on: the range of commercial refrigerants to be handled (the more modern refrigerants such as R32 and R1234yf require specific compatibility); the pressure and temperature ranges; portability for on-site service; integration with a mobile app and cloud archive for managing a customer portfolio; compliance with F-Gas regulations; supply of complete kits with service hoses, standard fittings and safety accessories; and after-sales service and periodic calibration.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
